Tips: Soft starter principle
Soft-start is a motor starting mode. Compared to the hard start, in the motor soft-start process the voltage gradually increases to the rated voltage, the starting current gradually goes up to the rated current and then goes down. Soft-start makes the motor speed gradually increasing, and there is no impact torque phenomenon, motors always running smoothly and have no damage. The soft-start of the motor is achieved by a soft starter, which places the voltage regulator (typically a three-phase anti-parallel thyristor) between the power supply and the stator of the motor. The circuit is like a three-phase fully-controlled bridge rectifier circuit.
When the output voltage increases to the rated voltage, to achieve a smooth start, and gradually reduce the starting current, in order to avoid the motor trip phenomenon caused by too large starting current. When the speed increases to the rated speed, the motor's soft-start process ends, the soft starter automatically uses the bypass contactor to replace the thyristor to provide the voltage, making the motor has been rotating at constant speed invariably.
The soft starter not only can complete the motor soft-start, but also can complete the motor soft-stop. Soft starter soft-stop working principle is exactly opposite to soft-start working principle. It is mainly reducing output voltage gradually to reduce its speed until zero, and up to the motor stopping slowly.
