Tips: Motor soft starter model selection
In actual working should consider the specific product features and technical parameters and product reliability, and according to the actual usage to choose the soft starter. Here it is necessary to differentiate that motor is frequent start or infrequent start. For the soft starter, in general, if the motor start interval time does not exceed 2 minutes, and 30 times per hour, can be identified as infrequent start. Less than 2 minutes should be considered as frequent start. Fan and pump load generally belong to infrequent start. Mechanical transmission type like belt machine, grinding mill, and others can be considered as infrequent start. If the motor is starter, or electromotor that is equipped for the large machinery equipment needing reversible function, mostly belongs to frequent start.
Choosing a soft starter for frequent working place should according to the motor starting current. Normal soft starter silicone controlled rectifier current is 2.5 times of motor rated current. Limit the maximum motor starting current is 4.5 times of the rated current. In the infrequent operation can take full advantage of SCR short-term overload capacity. In the conditions of frequent starting, should select increasing the soft starter capacity, according to the different of frequency take 1.2 to 1.5 times of the capacity. At the same time, due to the SCR frequent working and generating a lot of heat, the soft starter must be equipped with mechanical air-cooled to dissipate heat. It is best to put a mechanical air-cooled soft start device for each switchgear, and the switchgear should also be set with mechanical ventilation.
