Tips: How does a start delta starter work?

Star delta starter is a starting method of asynchronous motors. Because the starting current of asynchronous motors is relatively large during the starting process, motors with large capacity can use "star-delta switching start". This is a simple step-down starting method. When starting, the stator winding is connected into a star shape, and then connected into a triangle after starting, which can reduce the starting current and reduce its impact on the power grid. Such a start-up method is called star-delta decompression start, referred to as star-delta start (Y-O start).

When using star delta starter, the starting current is only 1/3 of the original direct starting according to the delta connection. If the starting current in direct starting is calculated as 6~7Ie, then in star delta starter, the starting current is only 2~2.3 times. At the same time, the starting voltage is only one-third of the root sign of the original delta connection method when starting directly. When the load does not have strict requirements on the starting torque of the motor and the starting current of the motor must be limited and the motor meets the 380V/O wiring conditions, the star delta starter can be used.
