Tips: Can this 200W power supply simultaneously power my laptop (65W) and a small desk lamp (15W)?
The total power consumption of your laptop (65W) and the small desk lamp (15W) is 80W. This is far below the inverter's rated power of 200W. Theoretically, it should be possible, but there are a few key points to keep in mind:
- Startup power (surge power): It is crucial, especially for your laptop. When you first plug your laptop's power adapter into the inverter, the internal capacitors charge, generating a momentary surge current that can be two to three times the normal operating power. This means that your 65W laptop might briefly draw 130W to 195W when plugged in. Adding the 15W power of the desk lamp, the total instantaneous power consumption could reach 145W to 210W. A 200W inverter typically has a certain overload capacity (perhaps capable of withstanding a transient power surge of 250W to 300W), but 210W is very close to its limit. If the inverter's overload protection is sensitive, it may trigger a power outage.
Connection Method: Never use the cigarette lighter port! A 200W inverter must be connected directly to the vehicle battery terminals using the included battery clip cables to achieve the full and stable 200W power output.
Inverter efficiency: The inverter itself consumes some power while operating (efficiency is typically around 85%-90%). This means that to output 80W of power, the actual power drawn from the battery might be 80W / 0.9 ≈ 89W. This loss is normal, but you need to account for it when calculating battery life.
