Tips: What is a vortex flow meter?

A vortex flow meter is a flow measurement instrument based on the principle of the vortex effect. It works by installing a disturbing fluid (usually a cross-sectional protrusion) in a pipe, which creates regular vortices behind the fluid as it passes through. The frequency of the vortex is directly proportional to the fluid flow rate, so the flow rate can be calculated by measuring the vortex frequency.

Vortex flow meters are used in various industrial fields, especially in chemical, power, oil and gas industries. It is capable of measuring the flow of various fluids, including liquids, gases and steam. It is particularly suited to fluids that have a steady flow rate and do not settle easily or with small variations. Common application scenarios include measurement of vapor flow in pipelines, monitoring of liquid flow in chemical reactions, and industrial gas flow control.
