Tips: How to judge a capacitor by a multimeter?
It is the most commonly used method to check the quality of a capacitor with a multimeter method. Set the multimeter switch at R x 10 k Ω or R x 1 k Ω resistance band, connect the black pole to positive terminal of capacity while connect the red pole to capacitors positive terminal of capacity, red pens and connect the negative polarity end of the capacitor (non-polar capacitors can be arbitrarily connected). Observe the swinging of meter pointer, you can basically judge a capacitor.
- Pointer quickly swings to 0 Ω first, and then slowly returns to hundreds of k Ω position after stop, explain the capacitor is in good condition.
- If the pointer does not move, it indicates that the capacitor has been damaged or there is an open circuit.
- If the pointer swings to 0 Ω and does not return, it shows that the capacitor has been broken down.
- Pointer swings to 0 Ω, and then slowly returns to a smaller resistance after stopping. It indicates that the leakage current of the capacitor is bigger, which can determine to whether to replace the capacitor according to the specific situations.
